What is considered essential could go on and on. Daily I am listening to what many would consider essential and what is not essential. If we were in a zombie apocalypse you may say water, a gun or bow for protection and maybe a few snacks. All businesses would be shut down completely and life would go on just without our daily luxuries. Today essentials includes grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations remaining open. However, each state has a very detailed list of what would be considered essential. Some states include liquor stores and dispensories, to not cause panic that you wouldn’t be able to have your vises. States are also including truck, UPS and Amazon drivers because they provide food and services to grocery stores and homes. They may also include factories that produce medical supplies, police force and groundsman ie snow removal and landscapers. These provide safety and security to roads and walkways. What is my point? Essential vs non-essential could be different for each individual.
Non-Essential and Luxuries.
There is a reason why almost any business would become essential to stay open and then what? The world operates as it should and our luxuries remain intact. Because of this there would be no “stay-at-home” order. Also recommendations and social distancing would be nearly impossible. We as a society and human race have been accustomed to so many luxuries. These luxuries may be difficult or inconvenient to live without .We take for granted having our hair cut, nails polished and drive through everything.
Essentials, pack it all into one backpack.
If the apocalypse were to happen and all our luxuries were taken away, now what? As an exercise, if you had to leave your home today with only a backpack, what would be inside your backpack? Exclude food and clothing from this list at this time. Assume we could get this from homes and stores that are closed and forced to hunt out. I would imagine this is where looting and crime would ensue. Also included would be a knife, gun and ammo to protect myself. Lastly maybe a few snacks to tie me over until I can forage for food. Don’t forget a good pair of shoes, a jacket and a hat to assist with the elements. There is little that we need to survive directly from our home. All other things would be luxury items and non-essential.
Information for finances today.
Congress has passed a stimulus package that would provide checks to each individual a certain amount of money. Of course there will be regulations on this. Essentially you would receive so much for each adult and child in your home. The President has also spoken more about small business loans. Because this with assist in business and provide financial support. Unemployment compensation was also increased in all states to an additional $600. Each state governs their own unemployment. There are many that cannot live on the maximum benefit allowable in their state. This will be allowable for four months.
